Chapter #12

So the plan was to spend a few days
in Austria,
hoping that by the end of the week
the hand/wrist would be fit
for holding handle bars again :)

Lake Wolfgansee beckoned -
wow...
so beautiful.
But what we didn't count on
was the place being booked out.
Peak season and not a tent site to be found!
Luckily in the end we did find one
after doing the rounds.
It's not hard to see why the lake is so popular
cos its just so flipping pretty :)

...yes...the lake really is as blue
as it is in this picture.
Incredibly picturesque.

Wee nature walk in the hills behind
that afternoon...

...one of the things about some of the
walking trails over here
is that they start off really pretty good,
quite clear and well sign-posted
(though in some cases it is a bit of a mission
to find the starting point
but that's just part of the adventure:)
but sometimes
you get quite a distance into the track
and, well, it just sort of stops,
and there is no track
and no signs!!!
This was one of those occasions :)
Miles up the hill
though nowhere near the top
and "phoof"
track vanishes,
no signs,
and
nothing for it
but to turn and walk back.
Sometimes a little frustrating,
but still
a nice day out:)
Sometimes when this has happened
I just make my own track
and head for the general direction
of camp.
Sooner or later I usually manage
to find my way home :)

The lake is very close to Salzburg
so we decided on a day trip to the city.
It was a little grey and overcast that day,
so we did not see it at its finest
but even so
what a beautiful city!

The weather turned a little while
we were in Austria
but honestly who could complain -
this was the first time we had to
pack up the tent in the rain,
 I think,
since we started this adventure.
The summer has been very kind to us.

Before leaving beautiful Lake Wolfgansee
I had time for one last evening walk
round the village...

...it's pretty isn't it :)

Then we headed a little further south to
Innsbruck.
Only had a day to explore
but as you know
I can pack quite a bit into one day:)
This is another absolutely gorgeous city
and loved our day wandering it's streets
and seeing the palace and it's grounds.

...is this not one of the cutest
row of houses you've ever seen :)

...interesting mix of architecture
between the straight lines
and the exuberantly ornate!

...I may have popped into this wee shop
just for a few minutes
and I may have purchased a small item
(or maybe two!)
that are going to be ridiculously
hard to get home in one piece!!
Didn't quite think that one through
at the time:)
Oh well,
where there's a will
there's a way..

Beautiful gardens and park
surrounded the palace
though I'm not sure that's what it was called,
perhaps a Chateaux?

...was quite delighted to find
herb garden in the grounds...

...love echinacea...

So at this point of our "unexpected" tour
we had decisions to make
based on the state of health
of a certain hand and wrist.
We were to have returned to France
at this stage
to continue the race circuit
but sadly for Jake
there was very little improvement.
Where to go from here...
impromptu decision to head
to Trier
in Germany
to watch Hayden
race the WRC.
This is not something I ever thought
I would get the chance to do,
so when Jake suggested it
well...
it was a no-brainer!
 We hit the road
early in the morning
and pulled into Trier the next day
for a weekend of motor racing.
See you there amongst
the vineyards :)
